Project 1
The thinking skill of the project was contextualization. For this we wanted to figure out what it was like to be in the transition from the Beat Generation to the Hippie Movement. This interested me because one transitioned from the other, but they have very different styles and views. I had a general idea of these groups, but as I continued researching I found out the whole story and the reason for both of these generations.
Art
Original IdeasOur original idea was to create a collage that showed a landscape view of the hippies coming into the beatniks world. We were also considering comparing the 60s to the world today. Our artistic plan was to have large hands opening up one movement to the other for them to see each other as shown in the picture of inspiration above.

Final CollageOur final idea was to have an enlarged image of Jack Kerouac to represent someone who was a beatnik and then opposed the transition into the hippie movement. The images are coming out of his head to show the transition from a major influence from the beat generation. For most of the collage we found images and works/phrases that represented each of the groups. The differing colors show that the beatniks were mainly black and white and the hippies were bold and bright. To show the thinking skill we took two generations that we thought were completely different and contextualized the main reasons why one molded into the other. We wanted to understand how these groups formed the history of theses decades.
